Dean Terry Bio
Dean Terry is a transmedia artist, writer, professor, and creative consultant. He is Professor and founding faculty of Arts & Technology at the University of Texas at Dallas where he directs the ACTS research group. His creative and technology projects have been covered internationally including CNN, NPR, LA Times, BBC, MSNBC, WSJ, ABC News, Huffington Post, Vice, Mashable, and many others. He is the Creative Director of Therefore, a performance, sound, and art group. In the past five years, they have played the AT&T Performing Arts Center with two major performances: The Alexa Dialogues and Poems for Broken Screens. Terry's diverse video and performance projects have been presented at ISEA, Currents International New Media Festival, SXSW, LA Film Festival, USA Film Festival, VideoFest, Ann Arbor Film Festival, PBS stations, and others. His university research projects have been supported by Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent, Samsung, Texas Instruments, BioWorld, and Apple. He has co-supervised over 30 Ph.D.’s along with hundreds of undergraduates and masters students. Terry is a recovering entrepreneur and the founder of PixelWave Design and Entertainment in Los Angeles, whose client list included Microsoft, Nokia, Warner Brothers, Sony, and many others. PixelWave sold to AtomFilms, where Terry was Senior VP of Creative Development. Atom subsequently sold to MTV/Viacom. He is currently developing a book on creativity and technology and producing experimental transmedia projects with Therefore.
